Retro op de juiste manier gebruiken

When we speak about retro I would say that retro applied in a modern and futuristic way is an asset. Retro applied in a nostalgic way can be a limitation to a brand, a product and a company. One has to be very cautious about how one applies retro. I have worked with retro on the Fiat 500, on the Baglietto boat MV 13, on all the retro shapes of eyewear but always focussing on giving innovative materials to each and every shape. The nostalgic part can be a tricky part, a dangerous part. The reality is we’re seeing in the industry – not only of footwear, eyewear, cars, in many different industries – a lot of the creatives are bringing a retro feel to their product, but in the feel they’re always applying innovative materials. Because with retro there needs to be a reason why. When I did the bespoke for Gucci I chose a retro fit but with a modern shape. Retro often has amazing stories to tell, but often the present and the future has amazing stories to tell too.
